A 2 person hot tub doesn't have to feel cramped. Our compact round tubs with an inner diameter of about 1.6 m comfortably seat 2–4 adults, while the Japanese ofuro oval (1.9 × 1.1 m) is perfect for one or two bathers. Because they hold less water, small hot tubs heat up faster and cost less to run.
Who is a small hot tub for?
A 2–4 person hot tub is the right choice if you mostly bathe as a couple or a small family, or if space on your terrace or in a small garden is limited. The ~1.6 m round tub gives two people plenty of room to stretch out and still fits four adults for a soak with friends.
If you bathe alone or strictly as a couple, consider the Japanese ofuro: an oval 1.9 × 1.1 m soaking tub designed for 1–2 people – one of the most compact hot tubs you can put on a terrace.
Faster heating, lower running costs
The biggest practical advantage of a small hot tub is water volume. Less water means:
- faster heat-up, whether you choose a wood-fired stove or an electric heater
- less firewood or electricity used per session
- quicker refills and easier water care
You can configure a wood-fired stove (integrated or external), an electric heater, or combine both – heat with wood, then hold the temperature electrically.
Materials, wood finishes and prices
Compact tubs are available with a fiberglass liner from about €1,440 (that starting price applies to the ofuro) or a polypropylene liner, also from about €1,440. The exterior can be clad in spruce, larch, thermowood or low-maintenance WPC.

How quickly does a small hot tub heat up?
Noticeably faster than larger tubs, simply because there is less water to heat. The exact time depends on the stove or heater, the starting water temperature and the season – insulation and a cover shorten it further.
How much space do I need for a 2–4 person hot tub?
Plan for the tub's footprint plus about 1 m of free access space around it – for getting in and out, stoking the stove and maintenance. That's why compact tubs fit even small terraces.
